Who or what inspires you professionally?

Bio:

There is always a relationship to be built – designing facilities and getting them constructed is no small feat, takes a collaborative team. I enjoy being a part of that team that evolves from the initial interview thru the warranty walk thru. A farm kid that was involved in her parents building a home sparked that initial desire and I have not stopped learning from every individual I have met and interacted with since. Licensed for 10 years, I love working with the project ownership groups..

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

My parents built their own home. My love for the details and how things were built are rooted in that and my mechanical father's influence. As I interacted with my quadriplegic aunt and her experience my understanding and need to fix it grew.

What do you do?

I work with teams to design facilities that will meet their needs while also enhance their physical and emotional experience while in the spaces. Working with the construction and consultant team to bring the vision into space an experience.

What excites you in the work you do?

The human component of the job. The work that we can do to design facilities, problem solve and collaborate to make everything that we do better. And then seeing the end user thrive in their space and it truly do more than originally imagined.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

My grandmother - she believed in me when I told her that I wanted to be an architect, but that I doubted myself because I was a female in a male dominated industry. My parents to make them proud. And Steve Martin, he believed in the details as do I.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Working with Alethia Riding Center, their facility is not one of architectural significance, but the work they do is. They are able to offer an indoor therapeutic riding facility that now can operate more days out of the year.
