SAY IT LOUD - Minnesota Exhibitor

Minnesota Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I have had the pleasure of working at three amazing residential firms in my career. I feel fortunate to have been mentored at each of them. There are pieces of each firm that have formed my abilities as a design professional.

She is proud to have been selected to participate in the 2020 AIA Minnesota Leadership Forum. How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

My dad was a home builder when I was growing up so my family was always on job sites,“helping” him build things. I loved drawing and doing art, so architecture was a natural merger of construction and art.

What do you do?

As a project manager, my responsibilities include caring for the clients, carefully assessing their needs and translating them into built form. I ensure that project goals are being met while maintaining communication between the project team.

What excites you in the work you do?

Variety! At PKA Architecture, we work on a wide variety of project types and scales for clients with varying needs and goals. Each client and project team is a little different so each outcome is unique.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I always take great pride in having happy clients whose needs have been met but expectations have been exceeded!

Project goals included pushing the envelope to create a distinctive home with clean gabled forms that was more modern/contemporary than the other homes on the block while still complementing and accentuating the vibe of the established neighborhood.
