Who or what inspires you professionally?

I am inspired by architects who are willing to take risks and challenge the norm in order to make a difference through architecture.

SARA CHAFI

Bio:

The great designer, Originally from Morocco Sara Chafi moved to the US to complete her studies at UNCC where she majored in Architecture. Given the opportunity to study abroad Sara spent a semester in Barcelona at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia learning about emerging technologies and their relationship with cities and architecture. Having received her bachelor’s degree with Cum Laude Honors she joined the Advanced Standing Masters program which she is currently completing at UNCC.

 

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I first learnt about architecture after seeing it on a cartoon called “Martin Matin”. Every morning he wakes up as a new character and after witnessing his fun adventure I decided to find out more about the profession.

What do you do?

I am an Architecture graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Currently completing my final semester and excited to join the professional field.

What excites you in the work you do?

I greatly enjoy collaborating with my classmates as well as interacting with members of a community for whom an architectural or urban project may be crucial.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I am inspired by architects who are willing to take risks and challenge the norm in order to make a difference through architecture.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest accomplishment is interning at a firm I greatly admire, Oualalou + Choi.

Featured Project Description:

Produced for Kelly Carlson-Reddig's Comprehensive Studio in the Advanced Standing Masters of Architecture Degree, ARISE is a place for social responsibility, democracy, solidarity and equity. Charlotte’s desperate need for affordable housing is addressed with a residential tower that exclusively accommodates low-income families and the displaced individuals from a newly demolished SRO building in the area.
