Inspired by architects who are passionate about creating change, our mentors, colleagues, partners, and last but not least, our families.

RUTH SARASTIA KUSWARA 

Bio:

The great designer ,  Ruth Sarastia Kuswara is a fourth-year student in Iowa State University’s Bachelor of Architecture program. Being a person of different cultures and backgrounds, she was inspired by the diversity that exists in the world. She sought to bring in the diversity into architectural projects that can encourage people to learn, understand, and celebrate different cultures.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

She first learned and became exposed to the world of architecture when she was in high school. She realized that the built environment is her primarily for people. She was inspired to create livable spaces that improve people’s quality of life.

What do you do?

She is fourth year architecture student, learning more about the built environment as she advance in her academics. She's hoping to bring about our passion and understanding of different cultures to the diverse communities of the profession.

What excites you in the work you do?

Seeing how she can turn ideas into architecture that serves people and advocates change, providing them the opportunity to become united within their community.

She is inspired by architects who are passionate about creating change, our mentors, colleagues, partners, and last but not least, our families.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

One of her proudest achievements is being nominated for the BWBR Prize in Spring 2020. She is looking forward to bringing diversity into our communities through architecture.

Featured Project Description:

The LOOP is a project in Chelsea, NYC, which sought to break the boundaries of cultural diversity by bringing in artists of different backgrounds into a creative, collaborative space. The LOOP sought to be a place that inspires people to learn, understand, and celebrate the vibrancy of cultures in Chelsea that are forgotten.
