SAY IT LOUD - SOUTH DAKOTA Exhibitor
South Dakota Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

In education projects, I am inspired by teachers and school faculty. Being the daughter of a teacher, I grew up watching how much care teachers have for their students, so I work to put that amount of care into their projects.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I was mostly exposed to residential design growing up which was what led me to college for interior design. During college, I was introduced to all the different typologies of interior design and found my place in the commercial world.

What do you do?

I am an interior designer who works closely with the Director of Interior Design and Architecture team on all project phases. I love working on the details and am highly involved in education, private office, and retail markets.

What excites you in the work you do?

I get excited about the details within a project. Working through not only the overall big picture but also the small details that have a big impact in the end deepens my investment in the projects I work on.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

In education projects, I am inspired by teachers and school faculty. Being the daughter of a teacher, I grew up watching how much care teachers have for their students, so I work to put that amount of care into their projects.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest professional accomplishment has been the knowledge I have gained. As a young designer, all the new knowledge can be intimidating, but seeing the places I have used it has been rewarding and I am excited to continue learning.

Featured Project Name:

Hartford Elementary Addition/Renovation

Featured Project Location:

Hartford, South Dakota

Featured Project Completion Date:

August 2024

Role in Featured Project:

Interior Designer and Document Developer

Featured Project Description:

The Hartford Elementary Addition/Renovation project added classrooms and updated other spaces in the school. One of these spaces included the cafeteria. Being one of the loudest areas in a school, special consideration was given to the acoustics in this space. Although function is the main reason to apply acoustic wall and ceiling panels, there is an opportunity to incorporate school spirit and branding. Additionally, the panels are laid out diagonally, different from typical panel layouts.
