SAY IT LOUD - Tennessee Exhibitor
Tennessee Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

My dad inspires me everyday. He was a pastor for over 20 years and has always taught me how to be a man of God and do what is right everyday. He passed away in August 2017 but has guided me every step since, without him I wouldn't be here today.

PHILLIP HAYNES

Bio:

Phillip Haynes is a graduate student at the University of Memphis where he is anticipated to earn his fourth degree in Masters of Architecture in Spring 2024. He has earned his Bachelor's of Architecture and Interior Architecture from the University of Memphis and received his Bachelor's of Interior Design from the University of Central Arkansas. He is a member of the Kappa Alpha Chapter of Tau Sigma Delta Architecture Honor Society where he graduated top 20% of his class and serves as AIAS Rep.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I remember as a kid I've always had the love for LEGOs and creating anything that came to mind. That passion for creation turned into playing Minecraft and Sims and before I knew it I was playing with new games called Revit, Sketchup, and Photoshop.

What do you do?

I am currently a graduate student at the University of Memphis. I am an Architectural Designer at A2H where I plan to earn my NCIDQ, LEED, and Registered Architecture licensure. I plan on making a difference in every community around the world.

What excites you in the work you do? Who or what inspires you professionally?

Understanding how our design impacts the world in a positive way is what excites me. We serve our community in ways people don't realize. Problem solving and helping others will always be what excites me and knowing I made a difference for the better

Who or what inspires you professionally? What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My dad inspires me everyday. He was a pastor for over 20 years and has always taught me how to be a man of God and do what is right everyday. He passed away in August 2017 but has guided me every step since, without him I wouldn't be here today.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Graduating College. Statistically, I was never supposed to graduate high school or live past 20. Against all odds and adversity to climb this mountain has been everything to me, and when I reach the top, I will reach down and pull others up with me.

Featured Project Description:

The Fogelman Business Center project was the expansion of the existing Fogelman Business School at the University of Memphis. The design concept was to preserve the entire site and maintain it on the roof of the building. In doing so, created an agricultural garden opportunity that could teach students about the billion dollar industry that Tennessee thrives in. Each elevated platform was determined by function while being connected through the balconies that transition through each space.
