PATSY DEL ANGEL

SAY IT LOUD - CALIFORNIA Exhibitor
California Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Meeting people who manage to get through hardships and hurdles while still achieving their professional goals inspires me to do the same. Stepping out of a comfort zone is never simple or easy, but necessary towards becoming a better professional.

PATSY DEL ANGEL

Bio:

My name is Patsy Del Angel and I'm a designer based in Long Beach, California. My mission as a design professional is to help create more livable, sustainable, and thoughtfully engaging communities to those we serve. I currently work for Works Progress Architecture, a Portland & LA-based studio that dedicates itself to the importance of providing provocative, modern designs that compliment existing urban fabrics and enhance the quality of local communities.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

There's no particular moment, but I know I've always been called towards it. Like many others in the profession, the love for art, building design and comfortability, and how nature compliments its surroundings led me to pursue the design field.

What do you do?

I am a project designer. I collaborate with other design professionals to help run projects from conception to completion.

What excites you in the work you do?

What is most exciting about Architecture is that you’re essentially solving a very complex puzzle that requires you to be open-minded, yet by the book. Artistic and technical. In the end, you provide a positive & thoughtful outcome for the end user.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Meeting people who manage to get through hardships and hurdles while still achieving their professional goals inspires me to do the same. Stepping out of a comfort zone is never simple or easy, but necessary towards becoming a better professional.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Representing Latinas in Architecture. With low representation in racial diversity & gender, it's felt discouraging at times. To work & design in a manner that reflects who we are is essential to me as it helps increase our visibility in the field.

Featured Project Description:

Sepulveda is a multi-family project that will hit the LA market as a work-force housing model. Designed strategically with smaller, smarter unit plans, comfortable amenity spaces, & relatively affordable rents, Sepulveda upholds its design standard by use of subtle massing articulation highlighted with pops of salmon grounding the concept to a mid-century, warm-weather vibe. Undulating shapes cradle a south-facing outdoor pool deck & create a podium connection with a 3-story, open-air breezeway.
