NANETTE MARTINEZ

Bio:
The Great Designer Nanette Martinez, Assoc. AIA, is a Cuban-born architect and educator. She is the founder of NM Projects and serves as Senior Design Manager at OBMl. Her expertise lies in design, project management, and BIM leadership in hospitality, mixed-use, institutional, and residential projects. An advocate for sustainability and parametric design, she is committed to innovative, environmentally conscious design solutions. Nanette has served as an Adjunct Professor at FIU CARTA and is a member of ICAA, collaborating with UM SoA for the preservation of the Garden of Our Lord in Coral Gables.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

The City of Havana inspired me to pursue a career in the built environment.

What do you do?

Assoc. AIA, Cuban-born architect and educator. Founder of NM Projects, Sr. Design Manager at OBMl. Expertise as Designer, PM and BIM Lead in hospitality, mixed-use, institutional, and residential projects.

 

What excites you in the work you do?

I love to design and educate. I have a passion for contributing to the formation of the next generation of designers. My tenure is a testament to my dedication to nurturing emerging talents and fostering a culture of innovation.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I like to think that the path which has brought me to where I am today is what I am most proud of.

Featured Project Description:

Proposal for renewal of Guantanamo Bay’s ferry docking area with new Multi-modal Transit Center. MTC serves as an international gateway to the city facilitating seamless movement from airport and neighboring Caribbean Islands. With 175,000 sf MTC integrates a ferry terminal, a light rail station, and public rooftop garden. The architecture organically emerges from the terrain transforming into a verdant roof structure composed of dynamic platforms that promote natural cooling and illumination.
