SAY IT LOUD - Tennessee Exhibitor
Tennessee Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Listening to others who have different lived experiences share their stories, challenges, and ideas. I’m also inspired when a young person develops a passion or realizes they have the potential for improving their community through design.

MICHELLE YE

Bio:

Michelle Ye is a principal and landscape architect at DT design studio. Her interests in planning, art, and horticulture are integrated into her practice of landscape architecture. From large-scale master planning to detailed design, she is committed to high-quality work that delights clients, serves the community, and is sensitive to the context of the site.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

After first learning about landscape architecture during Design Camp at NC State, a trip back to my birthplace of Shenzhen, China led me to examine landscape architecture as a profession that would empower me to improve the built environment.

What do you do?

I am a Principal at DT design studio, which means I wear a lot of different hats. I am highly adaptable and love to be involved in so many aspects of my practice and business as I push myself to learn and improve every day.

What excites you in the work you do? Who or what inspires you professionally?

Seeing people use a space, and in particular the long-term effects of that use for a neighborhood or community. Plants mature and add texture and shade. Users adopt the space as their own and add personal touches. The built environment comes alive.

Who or what inspires you professionally? What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Listening to others who have different lived experiences share their stories, challenges, and ideas. I’m also inspired when a young person develops a passion or realizes they have the potential for improving their community through design.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Definitely becoming an owner of my firm. As part of this journey, I’ve worked hard to replace self-doubt with development of a growth mindset and support systems with other women and minorities in the Memphis design community.
