Who or what inspires you professionally?

Kehinde Wiley, Ozwald Boateng and David Adjaye inspire me professionally because each create art with highest level of excellence that challenges the norm. Robert P. Madison continues to inspire me for the simple reason that he never have up.

MAYA MADISON

Bio:
The great designer ,Maya Madison designs with a sense of community and serving the public in mind. As a Syracuse University School of Architecture alumna, she has always viewed architecture as an art form that is essential to the everyday life and well-being of humanity. Maya has a variety of experience designing projects ranging from performing art centers to commercial skyscrapers. With a passion for drawing and painting, Maya brings her creative flare and artistic eye to the design and construction process.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I learned about architecture through my family’s legacy My great uncle, Robert P. Madison, was the first Black Architect in Ohio, both of my parents are architects and my grandfather was an architect. I decided to pursue architecture in High School.

What do you do?
I design structures for people who inhabit spaces that are often overlooked or forgotten.

What excites you in the work you do?
What excites me about my work is seeing the life of a design that was once an image in my head go from a sketch to a physical space that people occupy and experience.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
My proudest professional accomplishment was seeing the first project that I played a major role in during a summer internship come to life.

Featured Project Description:
Maya Madison with Think Wilder Architecture was commissioned to create a concept design for 115-37 east 2nd Street in Plainfield, New Jersey, a 100 Dwelling Unit Mixed-Use Residential and Commercial Building. Think wilder Architecture, with Offices in Harlem and in New Jersey are consistently working with developers to address issues centered around affordable housing in the Tri-State area. One of our first steps in the design process is to create concept design renderings for our clients.
