LINDA BOYLAN

Bio:

A registered architect with more than 35 years of experience, The Great Designer, Linda Boylan, is an expert at providing programming, master planning, design, and construction administration on the most complex of projects. She leads multidisciplinary teams supporting the design of facilities in various market sectors, including K-12, and is a valuable member of SSOE's South Carolina team. How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I started in Interior Design. I wanted to be involved in projects earlier where I could have a greater impact, so I went back to school to study Architecture.

What do you do?

I specialize in K-12 facility design. Its not the most glamorous sector and budgets are never adequate, but as a mother myself I realize how impactful the work is.

What excites you in the work you do?

I love solving 3 dimensional puzzles. That’s what buildings are to me…very complex 3-dimensional puzzles with lots of competing priorities.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I find the most fulfillment when I can solve a spatial problem in a way that is beautiful because of its functional solution…not applied or tacked on.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

It’s always the current project I’m working on…Each one is unique with it’s own set of challenges and opportunities. That is the thing I love most about Architecture….you never stop learning and growing.
