Who or what inspires you professionally?

So many people, every day. More recently I can nominate Dr. Daniele Hromek from Djinjama Indigenous Corporation in everything that she does, and the beautiful work being done by Taylor + Hinds Architects in Tasmania.

LAURA VALLENTINE

Bio:

Laura is a skilled design professional with over 12 years experience in both the design and delivery of a broad range of projects internationally recognised for design excellence. She specialises in complex services coordination, considered design solutions, and comprehensive documentation packages including construction detailing. Comfortable across all typologies, she has a particular interest in public and civic projects, projects that drive positive change in developing communities.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I have always been very interested in both visual arts and heritage buildings. Whilst studying art history in my first degree, I developed a specific interest in architectural history and the changing nature of building forms.

What do you do?

Every day I get the chance to work with incredible multi-disciplinary design teams to create and deliver projects that I hope makes a very small difference to how people experience their urban environments.

What excites you in the work you do? Who or what inspires you professionally?

Walking with a client through a finished project! Also hearing post occupancy about how our designed spaces are being inhabited and owned by the community in cool and unexpected ways.

Who or what inspires you professionally? What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

So many people, every day. More recently I can nominate Dr. Daniele Hromek from Djinjama Indigenous Corporation in everything that she does, and the beautiful work being done by Taylor + Hinds Architects in Tasmania.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Completing my architecture degree! It was such a long journey for me and my family, and I’m very proud that I made it.

Featured Project Description:

The new global headquarters of online employment marketplace SEEK single-mindedly places their people first, with a workplace embodying their unique culture and visually connecting the whole organisation. The ‘Contemporary Warehouse’ concept informed the design, driven by the client’s desire to create an atypical office building and its urban context.
