Who or what inspires you professionally?

My inspirations are my three sons (Gabriel 16, Adriano 10 and Alessandro 8). I design these buildings and spaces with them in mind so that some day, after viewing the finish product, they can appreciate my passion for architecture.

KIM ALTAMERO

Bio:

Kim Altamero was born in Manila, Philippines and moved to Sacramento, California when he was 7 years old. He attended Sacramento public schools, followed by California College of the Arts, San Francisco, where he graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Kim has over twenty-five years of experience and have successfully been the project manager and leader designer on numerous buildings up to one million square feet.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I first learned about architecture when I was admiring the San Francisco skyline from Yerba Buena Island during my family trip in high school. When my cousin told me that an architect design these structures I knew what I wanted to do.

What do you do?

I am a project manager and senior designer for a mid size architecture firm in Downtown Sacramento, California.

What excites you in the work you do? 

What excites me is to design a space or structure that people can experience.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest professional accomplishment is to give back to the community through architecture like the Rancho Cordova Youth Center and the Filipino Community Center.

Featured Project Description:

Originally a multi-ethnic church, 'Center of Praise Ministries' donated the building & land to the city specifically for a youth center. The Rancho Cordova Youth Center (RCYC) is the first youth center in the City of Rancho Cordova. RCYC provides a welcoming, central and safe environment for year-round youth programs and builds relationships with local youth. RCYC is centrally located and serves elementary and teenage students with a focus on mentorship, academic support & sports activities
