KEITH LASHLEY

Bio:

The Great Designer Keith Lashley is originally from the Northeast coast of the US. He has taught architecture and worked on several projects from Boston Massachusetts to Tortola in the BVI. For the past 24 years he has worked at HKS Architects primarily as a CA on many Healthcare and Hospitality projects. He graduated from Howard University with his BArch in 1977. He worked for the next 21 years in the field and was accepted to the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1998 where he earned his MDesS Degree in 1999.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

On a visit to NYC when I was 5 years old, while looking up at the skyscrapers from the rear window of our family car, it became my obsession.

What do you do?

I am a senior Construction Administrator for HKS Architects, Inc. for the past 24 years. My responsibilities are reviewing pay applications, RFI responses, submittals with oversight of the construction administration phase of the project.

 

What excites you in the work you do?

Participating in the progression of these building transformations from excavation to fully functional buildings that have satisfied the clients program and delivered much more

My Teams as they give me opportunities to teach as well as to learn.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Probably passing the ARE and then graduating from the GSD with my Masters in Design Studies.

Featured Project Description:

The Project was designed as a vertical expansion of the existing critical care facility for children. Four floors were added totally 164,158 sq, ft. with 108 new patient beds ORs, Cath Labs and a new CV Clinic. The project improves the quality of healthcare delivery by consolidating the hospital's critical care services and providing new surgical capabilities and treatment capabilities. The Themes of Fantasy, Rhythm, Adventure and Soaring were all created with children in mind.
