How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
My grandfather was an architect and I always been interested in art, design, and patterning.  I grew up drawing 3D shapes and patterns and was inspired to find a way to incorporate it into the work that I do.

What do you do?
I work on a variety of project types at a variety of scales through all phases of design.  As a past Adjunct Professor of Interior Design at Kent State University, I continue to serve as a mentor and juror of student work.

What excites you in the work you do?
I find it extremely rewarding that designers can transform a space while telling a story. Being able to tailor every project to its end users is something that makes every project unique and exciting.

Who or what inspires you professionally?
Being part of a team and coming up with ideas collectively is my favorite part of the job.  The snowball of ideas that develops once creative energy gets flowing is always inspiring.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
The math studio is one of my favorite projects.  Not only because of my love of math, but we were able to fulfill the goals of the client and create a space that makes math fun and less intimidating for those that struggle with the subject.

Featured Project Name:
LCCC Physical Sciences Tutoring Math Studio

Featured Project Location:
Lorain County Community College; Elyria, Ohio

Featured Project Completion Date:
2014

Role in Featured Project:
Design Lead

Featured Project Description:
The Math Studio was inspired by the complexity and beauty of mathematical principles. Rhythms, patterns, and geometries were infused on acoustic ceilings representing flattened polyhedrons. Geometric patterns inspired laser cut felt panels. A cloud of felt wrapped CNC milled baffles over the study carrels represents sin curves. These subtle math concepts were designed to inspire students‚ imagination and enthusiasm, while also addressing the concern of acoustic sensitivity for tutoring.
