Bio:

Jason Fung is an award-winning architect and founder of Jason Fung Architect Inc. (founded 2016), a Toronto-based practice delivering residential, commercial, institutional, and urban design projects. Committed to advancing the profession, he established the JFA Diversity Award, teaches at Toronto Metropolitan University, mentors emerging architects, serves on George Brown College's Program Advisory Committee, and volunteers as a guest critic and design juror.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I've wanted to be an architect for as long as I can remember. How that dream first took root is still a mystery, though I'm sure family and friends played a part. That early curiosity became a lifelong passion and career.

 

What do you do?

I am the founder and principal architect of Jason Fung Architect Inc., a Toronto-based practice that designs residential, commercial, institutional, and community projects while teaching, and advocating for greater diversity in architecture.

What excites you in the work you do?

Architecture is ultimately about people. I'm most excited by collaborating with clients to transform their values, stories, and aspirations into places that enrich everyday life and strengthen the communities they serve.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I'm inspired by film, cinema, and travel. Movies shape how I think about atmosphere, storytelling, and emotion, while experiencing architecture around the world continually expands my perspective on design.

​

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest accomplishment is seeing my legacy take shape through buildings and people. Watching projects enrich communities while also witnessing staff (and former staff) grow into leaders and licensed architects has been incredibly rewarding.

Featured Project Description:

Little Italy Brick House transformed the client's deep personal passion for mathematics into architecture. Inspired by the Four Colour Theorem, the custom brick façade creates a rhythmic pattern where no adjacent bricks share the same depth, expressing logic through craft. Bold colours, light, and spatial sequencing celebrate the collaboration between architect and client, resulting in a home that is both intellectually rigorous and deeply personal.
