I am impressed by architects who incorporate their own cultural history and sensibility in their work I enjoy the work of arch's who create unique forms with old ideas. I like the work of Mario Botta, Michael Graves, Tadao Ando and David Adjaye.

JAMES LLEWELLYN WELLS

Bio:

The Great Designer James Lleyellyn Wells was educated as an Architect at Princeton University and has worked on all sorts of project types in A/E firms over the years. James has done healthcare, schools, airports, and for most of the last 20 years he has designed and detailed mixed-use commercial projects in South Florida.
He is interested in the intersection between architectural design and human cultural history. James always try to incorporate cultural and sociological understandings in his design work.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I first learnt about Architecture as a Child when my parents had their home designed by a young architect that was fresh out of school at that time. I decided that the Built environment was of interest to me when I was college bound in high school.

What do you do?

I work as an architectural designer and detailer for a Structural Engineer and as a building design Architect for my own Clients.

 

What excites you in the work you do?

I enjoy building 3-dimensional rendered models of all the work I do. I get excited when my ideas get clearly expressed in an expressive rendered 3D scene.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest professional accomplishment is to constantly design and create new 3-dimensional ideas even when the design requirements of my task at hand are minimal. I always effectively express myself with 3 dimensional forms & spatial elements.

Role in Featured Project: 

Lead Design Architect and Archipal Design Principal with Ron Frazier, AIA as a mixed-use Urban Design and Housing policy consultant and mentor. I did all the Design drawings presented here.

Featured Project Description:

This is a combined 10-Story Mixed-Use Design Tower (8-stories of rental apartments over 2-floors of commercial office and retail space) that is situated adjacent to a freehold Urban townhouse development of proposed owner-occupied attached row-house units that are still in the schematic development and zoning approval phases.
