IMANE HOCINI

Bio:

My name is Imane Hocini; I am from Algeria. I completed my master's degree in architecture this summer from Kendall College of Art and Design. Previously, I graduated with my bachelor's degree in architecture and Urbanism from the University of Tizi Ouzou in Algeria and worked as an Architectural designer for four years. I find joy in designing spaces and places that bring a client's vision to life through thoughtful design.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

It started from an early age. As I was traveling across my native country, I was struck by the standard architecture that didn't reflect the richness and diversity of the natural environment, and I developed a deep desire to make a positive impact.

What do you do?

I completed my master's in architecture this year and decided to take the summer as an opportunity to catch up on family time and learn BIM 360. I accepted a position as an Architectural designer in the Grand Rapids area and will start in September.

What excites you in the work you do?

I'm very excited about bringing ideas to life. I enjoy making a positive impact on communities and utilizing my skills to assist residents who are seeking change within their communities by finding creative solutions to local and regional issues.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

One of my proudest achievements is earning my master's degree in architecture four years after moving to the United States and moving further toward my goal of becoming an architect despite the barriers of being a mother and an English learner.
