HEATHER ROBBINS

Bio:

The Great designer, Heather’s designs blend technical and aesthetic considerations across all building types. Heather has been published in Healthcare Design Magazine and her commercial designs have won multiple awards from the Nebraska/Iowa chapter of the International Interior Design Association.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I was late to the game and had nearly finished a degree in social work before I discovered design. I learned was that I could still affect people’s lives and experiences, but through something I was more passionate about- creativity, art and design.

What do you do?

Luckily, I have the opportunity to be a jack of all trades. I am a designer and creator, a manager, a problem solver, a student, a mentor, a rain-maker, an innovator. It is amazing to work in an industry where I can wear so many hats.

What excites you in the work you do?

The inquisitive people I work with -- colleagues, clients and community members. People who look to continuously improve processes and people who work in their professional and personal lives to make our community a better place for all people.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

My mother. She was able to earn her PhD and work full time while ensuring her children were successful and loved. Throughout her life she has served the underserved, creating programs and serving on boards to help children and the disabled.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest achievement is the work I’ve done with other women in our community to promote and mentor young women in architecture, design, engineering and construction. Seeing positive results from these efforts is incredibly rewarding.
