Who or what inspires you professionally?

I am inspired by other minorities that continue to show up every day to work knowing that we are instrumental in bringing change to the built environment. Our voice, thoughts, and skills can help transform the communities we represent daily.

HAYWARD BABINEAUX

Bio:

Hayward Babineaux is an Architectural Associate at Abonmarche Byce, located in Kalamazoo, MI. He received his Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from Andrews University and has over eight years of experience in Industrial, Residential, Municipal, and Private Developments. Hayward has a passion for working with minority developers and clients, making himself an asset to his community by assisting those who may not have access to AEC services.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I first learned about Architecture while attending a science camp in Elementary School. When I was younger, I wrote a book report about wanting to grow up and design buildings for low-income communities and people that looked like me.

What do you do?

As an Architectural Associate at Abonmarche Byce, I work on small to medium sized projects from the proposal through CA. In recent years, I have had the opportunity to work with minority developers and communities on a variety of projects.

What excites you in the work you do?

Working in a small community with a passion for reinvestment in neighborhoods within the city has allowed me to be an asset in helping those in need of AEC services. I love seeing projects I’ve worked on in low-income neighborhoods come to life.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I am inspired by other minorities that continue to show up every day to work knowing that we are instrumental in bringing change to the built environment. Our voice, thoughts, and skills can help transform the communities we represent daily.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I had a college professor tell me I would never become an Architect, making my associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree in architecture my proudest accomplishments. With over 8 years’ experience, I continue to push to become a licensed architect.
