Who or what inspires you professionally?

The creation of healing environments which improve the healing experience inspires me. I am fascinated by how a minor design detail can improve users’ experience, especially in a healthcare setting.

FOROUGH MOFIDI 

Bio:

The Great designer, Forough Mofidi is architectural designer at LS3P, I graduated from North Carolina State University with a Master of Architecture and a certificate in Energy and Technology. I am from Iran where I obtained my undergraduate and first master’s degree in architecture. I moved to the US to continue my studies in the profession. During graduate school, I worked as an intern and teaching assistant. Upon graduation, I began full time work in the middle of a global pandemic.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

Growing up, I was always fascinated by the rich architecture in Persian history and monuments. In college, I met students who were studying the built environment and chose major in architecture so that I could impact people’s living experiences.

What do you do?

I am an emerging professional working in the field of architecture at LS3P. I joined this firm as an intern when I was a graduate student and continued working with them full time on the healthcare team.

What excites you in the work you do?

As a designer in healthcare architecture, one of the most exciting parts of my job is to create spaces that facilitate people’s healing process. This motivates me to explore new ways to improve people’s experience of the built environment.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I am proud of my whole journey that made me who I am. Immigrating, studying in a foreign language, and living far from family has been challenging and has opened opportunities. Today, I design spaces that support patients and their healing process.

Featured Project Description:

This one-bedroom accessory dwelling unit was designed on an urban lot with special considerations for aging-in-place and accessibility. The 620 sf unit is designed to be appropriately scaled and comfortable when adapted to the context of the site. The unit features spacious indoor and outdoor living spaces with a louver system to provide privacy in the neighborhood. With construction at $162,000, this ADU provides a solution for independence, high quality of life, and affordable at home care.
