Bio:

Farah Al-Ameen is a great architect and photographer with over 15 years of experience across Canada and the Middle East. She co-founded Tri Design Studio in Dubai, leading civic, commercial, and public art projects. She is currently an Associate at DIALOG, contributing to design excellence across diverse typologies, including healthcare, civic, and educational projects.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

My sister began studying architecture while I was still in school. I still remember watching her design a house and build its model. I was mesmerized by the process of creating space and imagining the lives that would unfold within it.

 

What do you do?

I am an architect, designer, and photographer. I found my place designing institutional spaces across healthcare, civic, and higher education, always striving to create spaces that hold beauty, meaning, and a sense of belonging.

What excites you in the work you do?

Seeing projects come to life and spaces being occupied by people is what excites me most. I love observing how people experience spaces, sometimes in unexpected ways, and witnessing the collective effort behind making architecture.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I believe inspiration can be found everywhere when we are looking for it. I find it in people and their stories, different art forms, nature, and sometimes in my own memories and personal experiences.

​

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Hearing that I have inspired someone at the beginning of their journey in architecture is a meaningful moment. It reminds me of the mentors who helped me find my own voice and gives me a great sense of purpose to offer that same support to others.

The New Surgical and Patient Tower at Toronto Western Hospital reimagines healthcare as a place of connection. Designed to support complex surgical care and the needs of patients, families, and caregivers, the project strengthens connections to the hospital campus, the city, and nature. Through daylight, views, gardens, and biophilic elements, the design creates an environment that enhances patient care and supports healing, dignity, and well-being.
