How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I took a drafting class in the 9th grade and enjoyed it so much that I told my teacher that I wanted to draft for a living. Kindly, he told me, “No, you want to be an architect”.

Bio:
The great designer, Everald Colas is an award-winning Haitian-American architect, educator, and storyteller with design experience in hospitality, aviation, multifamily, and institutional buildings. He has led a variety of internationally acclaimed projects during his time as a practitioner. As a designer, Everald specializes in projects that require a sensitive approach to integrating mixed-use buildings in a historical context.

What do you do?
I am the founder of STORYN Studio for Architecture. We are a practice that uses storytelling and design to help guide clients to find their project’s identity, helping to ensure that complex projects are distilled to their design essence.
What excites you in the work you do?
I am excited by the design process—the way that design can be used to tell stories and as a tool for social change.
Who or what inspires you professionally?
Currently Michelle Obama. After studying about her life, I find it inspiring the way she has been able to have such a significant global impact, while simultaneously being so deeply involved and engaged with her family.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
Creating STORYN has been my proudest accomplishment to date

Featured Project Description:
The EDGE Collective further cements St. Pete’s EDGE District as one of the most desirable up-and-coming neighborhoods in Tampa Bay. The Edge Collective will be anchored by a Marriott Moxy Hotel and include a co-working space operated by St. Petersburg-based Station House; a European-inspired, full-service food hall managed by the team behind the Hall on Franklin in Tampa; a midblock paseo with unique experiential features; a 7,000-square-foot outdoor garden.
