SAY IT LOUD - North Carolina Exhibitor

North Carolina Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

We design buildings for people to experience, therefore I explore my surroundings and engage with people to generate different thoughts toward design. A construction site or talk with a barista may spark a new idea that I never expected.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

When I was young, I heard of an “architect” from a character on The Brady Bunch. However, it was a middle school drafting assignment that focused my attention on the profession. In high school, I began taking every drafting class which was offered.

What do you do?

I work on various projects, with a recent focus on K-12. I am responsible for completing documentation for different project phases, building Revit Models, and executing renderings to communicate the design concept.

What excites you in the work you do?

The process of solving the problem, or design, through an iterative process to narrow down the right solutions. It’s like solving a puzzle. In addition, simply collaborating with people to achieve a common goal excites me.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

We design buildings for people to experience, therefore I explore my surroundings and engage with people to generate different thoughts toward design. A construction site or talk with a barista may spark a new idea that I never expected.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Seeing my first project transformed from study models to a built 26-story tower that was featured on clips of Uptown Charlotte. I experienced firsthand the complexity of a building of that magnitude and saw my rending in the local newspaper.

Featured Project Description:

This onsite replacement project for a beloved high school will serve as a community anchor and point of pride. The welcoming 21st century learning environment honors the original campus with carefully considered gathering areas, connections to the outdoors, and monumental elements such the courtyard, theater, and “omni” multiuse space which exhibit a sense of time-honored usage and grandeur. Community engagement in this close-knit but historically underserved area was integral to the design.
