Who or what inspires you professionally?

I am inspired by David Adjaye on so many levels including his commitment to design excellent. More importantly I also am moved by musicians, artists and scientist such as Jean-Luc Ponty, Keith Haring and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Bio:

 The great designerDamon Leverett, AIA, NCARB, NOMA is Senior Lecturer, College of Architecture and Adjunct Instructor, School of Information at the University of Arizona. With over thirty years of experience working in the architecture, education, and design industry, he is formerly with the American Institute of Architects in Washington DC where he served as Managing Director. Damon was also Lecturer at Lawrence Technological University and the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign schools of Architects

 

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

At age 10 my neighbor, a commercial art student who specialized in home renderings, mentored and encouraged my emerging drawing skills. At 14, I attended a high school with an architectural curriculum, cementing my path to becoming an architect.

What do you do?

I am currently Senior Lecturer, College of Archi- tecture and Adjunct Instructor, School of Informa- tion at the University of Arizona.

What excites you in the work you do?

I started my path in love with drawing. Then during my career, I was a well-rounded architect performing in all aspect of the design process. At this stage of my career I am revisiting and explor- ing the emotions and craft of drawing.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

The University of Michigan North Quad Room 2435 project gave me an opportunity to explore the synergies between technology and space, allowing unique opportunity for users to collaborate and engage cyber realities.

Featured Project Description:

The $320 million, 1 million square foot urban enclave located in the mid-town Phoenix includes a 21-story condominium tower, a 21 story tower for lease, and a third tower for advanced, assisted living and dementia care. The site also provides 90 separate town home units, and a 1,300-space underground parking structure. The 8.3 acre site includes 700 total residential units with five planned phases.

Featured Project Description:

The construction of a new $10 million facility houses divisions of the Yavapai County Superior Court and related support operations. The 35,000 square foot building serves as the trial court of general jurisdiction for the State of Arizona and includes court rooms, judge’s chambers, jury assembly, adult and juvenile probation, and court administration.
