The execution and exceptional inventiveness from the works of Faye Toogood, Oki Sato, Patricia Urquiola and David Adjaye, to name a few, have inspired me throughout my career. I aspire to reach their level of professionalism and global reach.

BOLAJI TENIOLA

Bio:

Bolaji Teniola is an interdisciplinary furniture and industrial designer. With a Bachelor of Industrial Design (2012) and Associate Degree in Furniture Design (2020), Bolaji also draws on his experience working for furniture design studios overseas. His practice utilises an investigative approach to traverse various mediums, exploring materials and processes in search of pragmatic solutions that place equal importance on functionality and aesthetic appeal.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

As a furniture designer, my work is informed by the built environment. Going through my studies and learning about the rich history of this industry sparked my interest, motivating me to delve deeper into my current line of work.

What do you do?

I am an industrial and furniture designer, constantly exploring materials and processes, searching for pragmatic solutions that place equal importance on functionality and aesthetic appeal.

What excites you in the work you do?

The opportunity to work with an array of materials, be hands-on and the immediacy with which I can realise a concept excites me with the work I do.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

To date, I would have to say, being named the Design Institute of Australia, 2021 Australian Graduate of The Year for Furniture Design, and being accepted as an Associate of the furniture studio at the JamFactory.

Featured Project Description:

The Shimmer Room Divider, designed for the commercial office and home office space, offers a rethink on sharing communal indoor areas. Standing at 1900mm tall and 1200mm wide, The Shimmer Room Divider comprises welded kerf bent steel tubes clad with dichroic film and Tyvek paper. The Shimmer Room Divider provides a high level of privacy while maintaining connectedness via the transparency of the dichroic film and textural opaqueness of the Tyvek material.
