Who or what inspires you professionally?

I’m inspired by the women who paved the way for younger generations to achieve and be recognized for their contributions to the field. I’m also inspired by the community of emerging professionals who are working together to improve the profession.

ARIELLE SIEGEL LAPP

Bio:

The Great designer, Arielle is a project manager and designer focused on architecture in the public interest including higher ed, K-12, cultural, & institutional design. She obtained her M.Arch. from Pratt Institute and a B.A. from Lehigh University. Working in the industry while attending architecture school forced her to develop time-management skills that are an asset to this day. Arielle is committed to enhancing EDI in the profession. She is also a communication coordinator for AIANY Women in Architecture.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I moved a lot growing up. The museums, libraries, and universities that inspired me in each new city were designed by architects. As I learned more about the people behind their designs, I realized I could be one of those people too.

What do you do?

Project manager & designer. Everything from concept sketches & programming with the client, to detailing, drawing production, renderings, BIM management, coordination with consultants, and managing a team of dedicated professionals.

What excites you in the work you do?

I enjoy synthesizing the programmatic needs of a project with a design that communicates the function and meaning of the space. Creating places for people to grow, innovate, and collaborate.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Having a diverse skill set. I’m still broadening my interests and I feel like it’s too soon to tell. It’s always satisfying to see a project through from beginning to end.

Featured Project Description:

LEED Gold new building for Mechanical Engineering Department. The EIH contains classrooms, labs, a machine shop and makerspace. It fosters industry-academic collaboration with local start-ups. The building is comprised of two horizontal volumes, bent in different directions to connect with pedestrian patterns. A vertical tower connects the 2 volumes, emphasizing a building control center. The façade is comprised of GFRC panels in 2 shades to break the monumental shape down to human scale.
