ANJALI IYER

Feldman Architecture

SAY IT LOUD - CALIFORNIA Exhibitor
California Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I’ve specifically benefited from the wisdom of female mentors who guided me through moments of turbulence in my career. Zaha Hadid deserves a mention because of how gutsy she was and how she stormed into the profession at the time she did.

ANJALI IYER

Bio:

Anjali, LEED AP, hails from Mumbai, India, where she obtained her Bachelor of Architecture from the Sir J.J. College of Architecture. As an associate architect at a small firm with a focus on details, she offered her expertise for small to medium scale projects first in Bangalore and then in Prague. As a Senior Associate and a licensed architect at Feldman Architecture, Anjali continues to thrive in creative discourse and excels at translating design intent into ground reality.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

The best decision I made was to move out of a developer-dominated real estate market to a smaller city like Bangalore, where there was a real appreciation for design. At a small design studio in India, I fell deeply in love with the design process.

What do you do?

I’m an architect and a Senior Associate at Feldman Architecture, as well as an architectural project manager. I also serve as Business Development Manager and am one of 4 studio managers. I'm an active voice in our JEDI, Design, and Standards groups.

What excites you in the work you do?

The opportunity to create timeless architecture that's driven by compelling narratives excites me. As architects, we act as the hub in the wheel – we are generalists who leverage the expertise of talented consultants to solve complex problems.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I’ve specifically benefited from the wisdom of female mentors who guided me through moments of turbulence in my career. Zaha Hadid deserves a mention because of how gutsy she was and how she stormed into the profession at the time she did.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Staying the course after moving to the US and not giving up my dream of practicing architecture is my biggest accomplishment. I overcame a lack of local experience and work visa issues until I was hired for talent versus skill.

Featured Project Name:

Round House

Featured Project Location:

Los Altos Hills, California

Featured Project Completion Date:

September 2023

Role in Featured Project:

Project Architect

Featured Project Description:

Tucked away in Los Altos Hills, Round House is a geometrically unique structure; one of a few similarly shaped homes built in California in the 60s. Feldman Architecture set out to craft a respectful enrichment of the home’s original form, focusing in on a site-sensitive response to the steep, challenging plot. Most conventional solutions favor straight geometry, which made for a refreshing intervention that is an honest response to the constraints of this unique project.
