AMBER WHITMER

Bio:

As a Project Architect at Lionakis, Amber Whitmer brings over 15 years of experience in specializing in K-12 educational facilities and master plans. With several of her projects being LEED certified, Amber has shown that she is adept at designing buildings that are both sustainable and highly functional. She is passionate about designing to each client’s needs and improving the communities she helps through her work.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I learned about architecture by visiting architectural wonders, such as climbing the leaning tower of Pisa, in Europe when I was four. I have always enjoyed drawing, making models, playing w/ Legos, and solving puzzles and architecture fit that bill!

What do you do?

I had a long educational path to get to where I am today, but I like to think that’s why I’ve landed in designing educational environments. I’m an architect who specializes in K-12 educational projects.

What excites you in the work you do?

Building lasting relationships with clients and users of the spaces we design. Working in my community and giving back to local students by sharing my love and knowledge of architecture, as well as sharing different paths on becoming an architect.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Getting to help in the construction phase of the projects I have worked on through design inspires me to create a better product each time the pencil hits the paper. The wonderful female leaders that we have surrounding us in design and construction

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Knowing I had a dream of becoming an architect and getting here and becoming licensed. Passing all exams on my very first try and sharing my licensing achievements with my grandma before she passed away.
