Who or what inspires you professionally?

While I find inspiration and joy in many parts of the design process, what brings me the most fulfillment is seeing how the spaces I create inspire those who interact with them. It is amazing to see my designs creating an impact in my own community.

AMANDA GILLILAND

Bio:

Amanda’s enthusiasm for interior design has shown from the start. While in design school at SDSU, she jumped feet-first into the industry and secured her first design job. Fast forward to today, she has many years of experience and her passion continues to grow. She delivers brilliant designs, on large and small scales, in a range of industries including healthcare, hospitality, education, corporate, and retail. Amanda is a member of IIDA, SDID, and served previously as SDID chapter president.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I knew of design from a young age; it’s always been something I’m inclined to and found a true passion in college. From envisioning spaces, to working through the flow, to shaping the way people interact with the space, I enjoy it all.

What do you do?

As an interior designer, I turn my client’s dreams and ideas into reality. I not only create spaces that look beautiful, I create spaces that feel and function in ways that work for each client.

What excites you in the work you do?

Interior design never stops challenging me. I am always looking for innovative ways to make new design trends a reality for my customers. I enjoy seeing the space come to life and how my clients interact with the spaces once they are complete.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

While I find inspiration and joy in many parts of the design process, what brings me the most fulfillment is seeing how the spaces I create inspire those who interact with them. It is amazing to see my designs creating an impact in my own community.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest professional accomplishment so far is a custom home, currently under construction, that I have designed from the ground up. People don’t always understand what a designer can do, this allowed me to showcase my talents and abilities.

Featured Project Description:

Amanda’s design embodies the spirit of BritZa, featuring functional dance studios and a black box theater. Many surprising details are found throughout such as custom feature walls inspired by the lines of a dancer’s body and lighting fixtures that resemble tutus. She found creative solutions to make the space feel luxurious such as the built-in custom laminate desk that looks like it is crafted from polished stone. The design enables BritZa to inspire the community through performing arts.
