Who or what inspires you professionally?

Talented future architects inspire me. That is one of the many reasons I teach at the university level. I am acutely aware of the optics of my presence in the classroom and in various professional settings.

Bio:

The Great Designer Anson M. Stuart, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, PMP, EcoDistricts AP, is the founder and principal of Stuart Architecture LLC based in Lauderhill, Florida. Anson is a licensed Architect in Florida, Georgia and Illinois. He has over 25 years of experience in design and construction he has worked on some notable projects in the South Florida market including the Betty T. Ferguson Community Center in Miami Gardens and the Urban League Community Empowerment Center in Ft. Lauderdale.

 

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I learned about architecture in high school, but I didn’t know much about it until a graduate architecture student from FAMU visited my drafting class. The moment he spoke, I knew it was what I wanted to do. Now, I speak to grade school students.

 

What do you do?

My firm specializes in multi-family residential and commercial projects. I am responsible for client engagement, business development, and all things in between.

What excites you in the work you do?

I’m excited about making a difference and providing opportunities. As architects, we take our clients’ ideas and make physical manifestations of them in a beautiful delicate balance of art, science, technology, and self-expression.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Passing the ARE’s. It taught me the importance of tenacity and perseverance and has opened so many doors and put me on the path to inspiring many others. I understand the importance of my position, and I am grateful to have it.

Featured Project Description:

This 2,600 sf home was as a modern structure with material character. The design emphasizes an open floor plan with exterior terraces and lots of natural light. The home is raised six feet from the existing grade to meet flood criteria and the base is accentuated through materiality and the slight surface extrusion of the walls that rise from it. The design includes several key elements including a two story living room space with floating stairs, solar panels, and a roof terrace.

Design Architect-This was a public RFP. Stuart Architecture is on the Development Team that includes Legacy American (Developer) and Brooks + Scarpa Architects.

 

Featured Project Description:

This project involves a mixed-income, mixed-use high-quality project that is both economically feasible and environmentally sustainable. It provides a total of 51 units (20% workforce, 80% market rate). The unit mix includes: 16 studios, 33 one bedrooms, and 2 two bedrooms. The existing structure will house 31 units with ground level commercial. The new 5-story structure will contain 20 units. Designated public art spaces have been designed throughout. The project is in the process of being awarded.
